Happy Wednesday, NovelliFans!

I’m a day off my usual posting pattern this week because I’m still in the midst of adjusting to a new sleep schedule after a minor change in circumstances here at House Bea.

The upside of which is getting to spend more hours enjoying the glorious summer sun & the downside being that I’ve spent much of the last week feeling like this…

Naturally, it can be difficult to write coherent sentences when you’re falling asleep at the keyboard , but I do hope that what I’ve managed to put together for you this week reads as well to you as it does to my currently circadian-rhythmless mind.

Hello, Indonesia

First of all, I’m happy to report that after the cancellation of her Summer Sound Festival set in Finland on July 20, Christina was back behind the decks this past Friday, July 26, at AMAVI Ultra Lounge Dance & Night Club in Medan, Indonesia.

The first of three currently scheduled performances at clubs across the island, August 2 will find her at the LAVVA Lounge in Jakarta, followed by a stop in Surabaya at Gozadera Restaurant & Bar on August 3.

So if you happen to be reading from over there (hello & thank you!!!) or you are by chance going to be in the area this weekend, you can find all the details you need to book a reservation at either show on the Christina Live page under the Events section of the site.

Heater Coming Through

Leading our list of fresh releases from last week is a brand new collab from vocal powerhouse and TikTok Live SUPERSTAR, Reigns, and Birmingham’s own house music chart-stopper, Joey McCrilley, whose previous tracks have seen support from major leaguers like AFROJACK, Oliver Heldens, David Guetta & Damon Sharpe.

Co-written with the incomparable Dee Adam, ‘Through The Night’ is the trio’s second collab, following their 2022 release ‘Close To You’, the single for which included a stunning acoustic version of the vibey, deep house original — and if you’ve been here for any length of time, you know how I feel about a stripped down acoustic*.

Doubling down on the heat of their previous effort, which was also released on Front of House Recordings, McCrilley has topped a bright and relatively continuous single-note foundation with bouyant synths and crisp percussion to create an eager melodic underscore for the song’s desirous lyrics, which Reigns delivers with the perfect mix of pleading and prowess.

Kick in a short & sweet horn motif at the latter half of the first chorus, and I think someone should let the music sups at Love Island know McCrilley & Reigns have crafted another top-notch contender for placement consideration.

Raising That Barre

Our second featured drop from Friday past comes with the added thrill of being the celebratory anthem for the NINE YEAR ANNIVERSARY(!!!) of Brittany Egbert’s Pure Barre North Hollywood studio, which opened back on July 31, 2015.

Written by the studio owner herself and expertly produced by her Sea To Sky second-half, Elated, ‘Cloud Nine’ is Brittany’s “love letter” to Pure Barre and the beautiful community that has blossomed up around it. A community that has gone so far as to choreograph and perform a special dance to the song as part of this year’s celebration!!! (WITH FULL ON TUMBLING & FLIPPING, FAM!!! Srsly, you’ve gotta see it.)

A salute to the power of purpose and the provision that cherished relationships can bring to our lives, ‘Cloud Nine‘ is masterfully crafted with lyrics that celebrate the depth of meaning found in a particular experience expressed through universally resonant metaphors that generously broaden the song’s accessibility and will absolutely preserve its longevity over time.

& it’s got an equally resonant soundscape to match!

Weaving bouncy & breezy synths through intricate syncopated percussion and bright, beautiful piano (coz, Brittany ), Elated has somehow managed to compose what feels like the musical equivalent of soaring through the clouds — a melodic triumph that pairs beautifully with Brittany’s rich, rounded vocal performance.

tbh, this is a track I’ve been itching to hear in full for a few weeks now, ever since Elated shared snippets of the production process in his (truly delightful) ‘Music Is Connection’ vlog series*, and it was without question worth the wait!

Shine, Siskin, Shine

Bookending this week’s post with some additional live music news, Sue McLaren & Susie Ledge were on site at Eden, Ibiza on July 25, for the fourth week of Paul van Dyk’s SHINE Ibiza residency, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.

Sue was on deck from 5-6 AM(!!!) playing a 1-hour Siskin set solo, due to the unfortunate absence of her second-half, Suzanne Chesterton, who was unable to travel from the UK due to complications from her surgery back in February.

At the time of writing, photos and footage of the event seem to be relatively scarce, but I’ll be sure to share anything I stumble upon in a future post — & rumour has it Susie may have joined Sue on stage for some live vocals — a la the Trance In The Woods set Siskin performed in Derbyshire back in June.

In the interim tho, here’s a graphic that I created in honour of the event, to celebrate all the fantabulous releases Siskin have gifted to us so far in 2024.
