Meet Your Next Obsession

Last week’s honourable mentions meet the latest fresh drops in another mammoth &Co. roundup. Come meet your next obsession.

We had a dynamite duo of drops this week, NovelliFans, plus a few honourable mentions & one extra special track from someone who’s been a fave of mine for a LONG time.

I’m excited to hear which one(s) you’ll be adding to your playlists, so let’s dig in!

#Obsessed

To kick things off this week we have a brand new collab from Linney and Dutch DJ & EDM producer, Dyro.

Co-written with Jeff Schoeny & coming to us on Dim Mak Records, ‘Obsession’ is the duo’s first official release, and makes for our second bass house feature here on the blog — following Sarah de Warren’s collab with Odd Mob, OMNOM & HYPERBEAM, ‘Reading My Mind’, which dropped April 26.

Prior to ‘Obsession’s’ release, Linney announced that the track is being featured as a sound on Instagram & TikTok, and challenged her audience to create a video sharing themselves doing something they are obsessed with.

Linney has already shared one of hers, and I’m currently working on mine, so if you feel inclined to join the fun, be sure to tag her @linney when you put yours up. (& if you’d like to tag me too @tanyabeacurates, I’d love to see what you’re obsessed with. )

If you’re not the content creation type, or you want to check out the track first for a little inspiration, ‘Obsession’ is waiting for you, with its “spicy drums, electro-tinged drops, and infectious spoken word vocals” wherever you like to listen.

Summer Lovin’

Next up we have a brand new track from last week’s Linney re-mixer, Maratone, who this time has teamed up with Hong Kong-based vocalist, Anita Tatlow, for his Sekora debut, ‘Feels Like Summer’.

Dubbed the label “where nature meets electronic music”, Sekora seems like a perfect fit for Maratone, given his masterful incorporation of ambient sounds into his tracks, like those he featured in his Abora Chillout release, ‘Finding Folux’ / ‘Voices of Sommarþy’, which also dropped back on April 26. (It’s giving Tolkien meets Paradise vibes if that’s your jam.)

If you haven’t heard ‘Feels Like Summer’ yet, I’m happy to report that the track is even more beautiful than I expected — and I expected a LOT, I mean look at that album cover!

Seriously tho, Fam, the vibes on this one are perfect for those breezy summer evenings when the heat of the sun has worn off but the light is still giving pure magic. Or you could pair it with Susie Ledge & Finley BrĂŒckner’s organic house bop ‘Closer’ and you’ve got the beginnings of a top notch ‘Day Party’ playlist.

Whatever the hour, you can catch the ‘Feels Like Summer’ vibe on your favourite platform now.

Dennis Does It Again

Another top-notch MMM mix-master, Dennis Sheperd, who added his ‘fit for a Bourne movie’ twist to a remix of Siskin’s ‘Let Go’ that dropped back on April 5, also recently released a fresh solo track on Black Hole Recordings called ‘Muchie’.

Inspired by the SOFIYA NZAU and Zerb track, ‘Mwaki’, Sheperd paired a moody melody & vigorous beat with ethereal African vocals to create a trance track that is nothing short of hypnotic.

‘Muchie’ is also one of four(!!!) MMM & Co. tracks that were featured in episode 404 of Andrew Rayel’s Find Your Harmony Radioshow, alongside ‘Serenity’, Christina’s latest collab with SMR LVE, ‘Solitaire’ by Susie Ledge & Yelow & ‘Under Pressure’ by Jason Ross, Kill The Noise & Sarah de Warren.

The track has also seen play on JES’ Unleash the Beat Mix Show 604, Ferry Corsten’s Resonation Radio 184, Bobina’s Russia Goes Clubbing 816 & many more.

If you’re looking for new tracks to build out your ‘Unique Sounds’ playlist, ‘Muchie’ is definitely an invigorating contender that I recommend getting lost in for a nice long while. #onrepeat

Dance Floor Calling

Our next & Co. entry for the week is another Gala Music exclusive from EpicFail called ‘Calling’.

Full disclosure, Fam, I have not done the research I told you I would do when EpicFail dropped their last Gala track, ‘Chaos’ back in May, so I have no additional information to share about the platform, or exactly how block-chain music works from a consumer standpoint
yet. (The Gala Music white paper is still in my reading list tho, so I hope to change that soon.)

However, I can assure you that like all the other tracks EpicFail has released on the platform to date (including the ones listed as sold out), ‘Calling’ can be streamed in its entirety, by signing up with your email for a free Gala Music account.

With it’s “electrifying vibes” and “captivating vocals” ‘Calling’ is def another feather in EpicFail’s cap, so if you’ve been waiting to add Gala to your rotation of music streaming apps, I’d say now is the time.

Head over to preview the track (no sign-up required) and let me know if you agree.

Waiting On A Sad Girl

Did you feel like something was missing last week, Fam? If so, you’ve got killer instincts, because one of the tracks I wasn’t able to fit into our previous roundup was the latest from the exceedingly prolific Sarah de Warren.

& honestly, at this point is it even really a week without fresh Sarah?

To get us back on track, SdW has teamed up with “melodic EDM, heavy bass, and hardstyle” DJ & producer, Naeleck & his fellow French dance pop producer, Coopex for the “sad girl hardstyle lullaby”, ‘House of Cards’.

Co-written with Kevin Pasco during a meetup in Paris, and coming to us on Helix Records (the v. same label that released Linney’s #1 smash, ‘Daisies’ back in Februrary) ‘House of Cards’ is exactly as Sarah described it, an infectious mix of hardstyle beats & soft, sad girl vocals that will lull you into a dream-state that gets deeper with every listen.

Fam, Meet Robyn

Our final track of the week is one I’m extra excited about, because it’s a release from someone I’ve considered a dear friend for going on 10 years now!!!

Robyn Cage is a Utah-based singer-songwriter with two full-length albums and a double EP under her belt, who is currently on tour as the soprano backing vocalist for Brit Floyd — the Liverpool-based Pink Floyd tribute band, who are also known as the World’s Greatest Pink Floyd Show.

Robyn’s also deep in the trenches of writing her first full-length rock opera called ‘BLACK FRIDAY, The Musical!’, from which she’s already released one track, the cheeky yet revealing romp, ‘Retail Therapy’.

Given how busy she’s been with touring & the musical, I wasn’t sure when I was going to get to feature a fresh release from Robyn here on the blog, so I’m super stoked that the opportunity has presented itself so soon!

& for this delightful circumstance we have internationally renowned, “trailblazing musician” Aural State to thank, for her remix of Robyn’s award-winning song, ‘Warrior‘, which was written by Robyn’s frequent collaborator and band-mate, Callie Crofts and is coming to us on Aural State’s own label, Threshold.

With the heightened isolation of the song’s evocative guitar line and amplification of vocals and strings right before the drop, Aural State has transformed the original track into an atmospheric progressive vibe that beautifully illustrates the song’s message of embracing your own unique form of self-expression.

So whaddya say, Fam? How about we show Robyn & Aural State a warm NovelliFans welcome by giving the ‘Warrior’ (Aural State Remix) a spin?

& if you enjoy the mix & would like to hear the original, I highly recommend giving the video a watch. Earlier this year it was “named a winner in the Zepstone International Film Festival” and like all of Robyn’s collabs with her frequent director, Bryce Johnson, it’s an audio-visual feast that you’ll be glad to have spent 3.5 minutes with. Promise!

*Fun fact: The first co-star Robyn encounters in the video is the song’s writer, Callie Crofts, who also happens to be a BA producer & bass player too!

How ’bout that NovelliFans? Another fab week of releases, don’t ya think?

Let me know which one(s) you’ve got on repeat — or the one(s) you’re most excited to check out — in the comments below.

& be sure to come back next week for fresh tracks from Cash Only and Sarah de Warren (Ofc ), plus the unveiling of my second fan edit — featuring the 3 MMM Queens who recently took Prague by storm.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
